GRSC Safety Protocol during COVID, as of 9/15/2020
GRSC has made every effort to stay abreast of regulations and recommended protocol, and we are pleased that tennis, pickleball and swim are considered moderate or low risk activities in terms of COVID-19. GRSC has been a regional leader for the tennis industry in keeping players safe. We have consulted physicians, epidemiologists, the CDC, the Reopen Connecticut guidelines as well as the health department and industry leaders to make sure that our members are as safe and comfortable during their visits to the club as possible. The following is an outline of what we are and will be doing. Please be assured that we will train staff on cleaning and safety protocols. These procedures will continue to be updated, tightened, and eased as we receive guidance and find what works and what needs adjustment.

All Facilities:

  • If you have traveled to one of Connecticut’s restricted states, we ask that you quarantine for 14 days from leaving said state before returning to GRSC. Or, if you get a COVID-19 negative test result and are asymptomatic, you may return. Please be considerate of other members and our staff!
  • Staff or members not feeling well or showing any COVID-19 symptoms should stay home
  • No towel service; bring your own towels
  • Hand sanitizer available around the property
  • New touchless appliances, like automatic hand sanitizer dispenser, open-top trash cans and airdry hand dryers
  • Consider different balls for each server; marker provided at check-in to differentiate
  • Tennis lesson groups limited in capacity; limited net crossing
  • Pickleballs of different colors for players of different households; kept in soapy water between uses
  • Staff will regularly sanitize entrances, exits and other high-touch surfaces
  • Sanitization of handles of demo racquets, paddles and balls before each use
Indoor Courts/Lobby:
  • As you enter the building, please check in with the desk staff. Everything you bring with you into the building should leave with you or be thrown out
  • Everyone, including juniors, wear masks in the lobby, bathrooms and on the way to courts, or moving from one place to another outside
  • New automatic front door
  • Wall-mount thermometers will be installed and members with 100.4°F or higher will be expected to go home
  • Visual cues to provide personal space in lobby
  • Plexiglas at front desk; transactions limited to charging to card on file or to member’s GRSC account; avoid cash handling
  • Furniture removed from lobby to avoid congregating
  • Locker room use limited to use of bathrooms
  • No coffee service; water fountain limited to bottle filling
  • Doors to courts propped open from lobby
  • Curtains to indoor courts propped open
  • One-way traffic: members exit GRSC through court 2 and 5 exterior doors to avoid lobby traffic
  • Groups will go down to courts 2 minutes AFTER official start time, and leave 2 minutes BEFORE official end time to diminish chance of overlap traffic
  • Our indoor court space is 42,000 square feet with 40-foot ceilings. We ask the members bring extra layers so we can maintain circulation with exterior doors open even if it gets a little chilly!
  • End fans used to create extra circulation whenever possible. They are well above players’ heads and therefore considered safer. We will use overhead to push heat down in the colder weather.
  • Extra seating on the courts to give players distance between play
  • Uncertain about doubles? Consider organizing your groups with people in your social “bubble”, and/or wear masks during doubles play
  • All groups may opt to play outside if courts are available and weather allows well into the Fall season. To hold your indoor court, indoor court fees will apply.
  • Ball machines are available with cleaning instructions for members

Your support of GRSC means the world to us.
Thank you!
